Emergency tree removal · Charlottesville, VA
Mature trees on tight city lots and steep Albemarle terrain. Technical removals done without tearing up the rest of the property. Call 540-827-8192.
Charlottesville has some of the finest mature canopy in Virginia and some of the least forgiving places to work under it. Belmont and North Downtown lots put century-old trees within feet of historic structures. Out toward Ivy and Earlysville the terrain gets steep enough that equipment placement matters as much as the cutting.
Both situations rule out simply felling a tree. Nearly every emergency call here is a technical, rigged removal where the risk is as much to the property below as to the crew. We plan the takedown before the first cut, which is what keeps a bad day from becoming a worse one.

Albemarle hillsides limit where equipment can sit. We work off climbing lines and portable rigging rather than needing a truck beside the tree.

Ask a questionSame-day for active hazards. Charlottesville is our longest regular run, so plan on a few hours rather than under two. Call 540-827-8192 for anything urgent — during widespread storm events we will be honest about our queue instead of promising a window we cannot make.
That is the normal job here. We rig from above and bring the tree down in controlled sections, roping each piece to a set point rather than letting it fall. It takes longer and costs more than felling, and on a Belmont or North Downtown lot it is the only responsible way to do it.
We use mats under equipment on soft ground and keep heavy machines off turf where we can work from the drive instead. On steep or saturated Albemarle sites we often go fully climbing-based specifically to keep machinery off the property. If some rutting is unavoidable we will say so up front and rake and seed it as part of the job.
Often, yes. A lean that appeared after wind usually means the root plate lifted, and a compromised root plate does not re-anchor. Look for soil heaved on the opposite side of the lean or cracks in the ground near the trunk. If you see either, keep people away from the fall zone and call us — that tree can come down in the next moderate wind.
Technical rigged removals run higher than open-yard work, typically $1,200 to $4,500 depending on size, access, and what is underneath. Historic structures and steep terrain add crew and time. We assess on site and give you a written number before any cutting starts.
